You might think this is a fungus or other disease afflicting your apples, but it’s not. It’s an insect.

Woolly aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum) is a sap sucking pest of apple trees. It has a fluffy white appearance and usually appears in autumn. Affected branches may show distorted growth the following year.
